Biography

Tom was born in White Plains and resides in the Westminster Ridge neighborhood with his wife Beth and sons Henry and Lawson, students at Eastview Elementary School George Washington Elementary School. Henry and Lawson are the fifth generation of Tom’s family to live in White Plains.

 

Education

Tom graduated magna cum laude from The University at Albany, Nelson A. Rockefeller School of Public Policy with a BA in Political Science. He earned his law degree at The University of Buffalo School of Law(SUNY).

 

 

Professional

Upon graduating from law school in 1986, Tom represented indigent individuals in Bronx County with the Legal Aid Society. In 1989 he entered the private practice of law in White Plains and has been primarily engaged in civil litigation since then. He is currently with the firm of Mead, Hecht, Conklin, and Gallagher in Mamaroneck.

 

 

Government

Elected to the Common Council in 2001, and re-elected in 2005, Tom served as Council President from 2004-2006 and currently serves as Chair of the Recreation Advisory Committee and as a member of the Personnel and Green Technology committees. Tom has also served as a member of The Westchester County Global Warming Task Force, The Bronx River Watershed Committee, the Non Point Source Committee (regarding pollution of Long Island Sound) and the Westchester County Healthy Air Task Force.

 

 

Personal

Tom married his wife Elizabeth, originally from Atlanta GA, in 1996. They resided in downtown White Plains prior to moving to their current home in Westminster Ridge. Their son Henry, 11, is entering the sixth grade at Eastview Middle School and Lawson is starting second grade at George Washington Elementary School. Tom’s family has lengthy ties to the city. His great-grandmother served as one of the city’s first police matrons and his grandmother, grandfather, and mother are all graduates of White Plains High School. Tom has been an avid runner his entire life, achieving a time of 2:47 in the NYC Marathon in 1991. A cancer survivor, Tom is active with a number of cancer charities.
